1. Which shoes are best for you?
| |
Canvas Vs. Leather
|
| |
• |
Canvas is usually more affordable, provides better grip on vinyl floors, dries faster, is washable and easier to dye. Heavier canvas materials last longer than thinner ones.
|
| |
• |
Leather usually lasts longer, works better on wooden floors, provides a better pointed look and warms the feet. |
| |
Split-sole vs. full-sole shoes
Split-sole shoes allow dancers to point easily and arch better. Beginners however should train with full-sole shoes first. |

2. How to maintain your Pointe shoes
| |
Drying and re-hardening
|
| |
•
|
After wearing, remove all padding from the box of the shoe and stuff in a plastic bag of paper towels or newspaper to prevent them from losing shape as they dry.
|
| |
• |
Pointe shoes usually need about 36 hours to dry.
|
| |
• |
To stiffen the shoes, use a brush to apply Fabulon® or other brands of shellacs and glues to desired areas; good for the next 1 - 3 wearings.
|
| |
• |
Use more than one pair at a time to prolong wear. |
