  Canvas Vs. Leather
 
  Canvas shoes are usually more affordable, provides better grip on vinyl floors, dries faster, are washable, and are easier to dye. Heavier canvas materials last longer than thinner ones. 
 
  Leather shoes usually last longer,work better on wooden floors, provide a better pointed look, and warms the feet.


  Split-sole vs. full-sole shoes

Split-sole shoes allow dancers to point easily and arch better. Beginners should however train with full-sole shoes.

2. How to Maintain your Pointe shoes 
 

  Drying and Re-Hardening
 
  After wearing, remove all padding from the box of the shoe and stuff in a plastic bag of paper towels or some newspaper to prevent them from losing shape as they dry.
 
  Pointe shoes usually need about 36 hours to dry.
 
  To stiffen the shoes, use a brush to apply Fabulon® or other brands of shellacs and glues to desired areas. The shoe should then be good for the next 1 - 3 wears.
 
  Use more than one pair at a time to prolong wear.


  Other Useful Facts 
 
  The lighter you are, the more likely that leather shoes will slide easily on floors.
 
  Feet and toe nails should be kept smooth to maintain the shoes’ cloth lining. Uneven stress can cause tears in shoes.
