Sonata Sponsorship Recipient 2023: Carris Lim

You may recognise her from the photos on our website and social media. While working with Carris during the photoshoots, we were impressed with her humble and diligent attitude towards ballet. Last year, her father unexpectedly passed on. Despite the unfortunate event, Carris persevered to compete with remarkable achievements in both regional and international competitions. She performed the lead role in her school’s annual performance, and was also a part of Singapore Ballet’s The Nutcracker in 2022. Her grit and resilience is truly inspiring, and we hope that she will continue to stay strong.

"Thank you for giving me the strength and companionship to continue my dance journey.

Thank you for accepting me into your big family when I have just lost my dearest dad.

Thank you for blessing me with the sponsorship and letting me know that I won’t be alone."

— Carris Lim

Announcement (2018)

Sonata Dancewear’s mission is to support the dance scene locally and regionally, to discover talents and celebrate excellence in the artistry. In 2015, the Sonata International Product Sponsorship for Students was established, and we have since offered sponsorships to 15 talented individuals.

This year, we are merging with the Singapore Dance Theatre Trainee Programme. The mission of our sponsorship is to encourage and support aspiring dancers to pursue a professional career in a dance company, and it is in line with SDT Trainee Program’s purpose of providing support and opportunities to bridge the gap between dance studies and professional years.

“Established in 2018, the Trainee Programme at Singapore Dance Theatre for promising and aspiring SDT’s pre-professional Scholars students will bridge dance studies and professional years, leading to readiness to be a potential company member of Singapore Dance Theatre or others. Trainees will undertake a 20-30 hours of technique classes and rehearsals weekly and may perform in SDT’s productions.

Trainees are selected via invitation by the Artistic Director of SDT and currently enrolled in the Scholars’ Programme.

Singapore Dance Theatre is pleased to have the support of Sonata Dancewear for our trainee program.”

The trainees for 2018 SDT Trainee Programme are: Felicia Er, Ma Xiaoyu, Reiko Tan, and Sayaka Yamauchi. We wish them all the best in their training with SDT, and look forward to seeing them dance with a company.

To those who have been anticipating the sponsorship application this year, we regret to inform you that there will not be a Sonata Sponsorship this year. We would like to sincerely thank everyone for your support and enthusiasm for the past 3 years, and we hope that you will continue to work hard to pursue your passion and dreams.
